Did you ever ask yourself why 5G and LTE have different max DL Throughput in DL?
Part of the answer is in the picture below: LTE uses OFDM while 5G NR uses filtered-OFDM meaning guard bands in NR are much less than 4G.
Hence for 20 MHz and SCS 15 KHz there are 106 PRBs in NR while in LTE there are only 100 PRBs.
Also, throughput is higher in NR due to the lack of CRS signals in 5G and PDCCH in 5G (CORESET) doesn’t occupy whole symbol.
Due to this max DL throughput in NR for FDD 20 Mhz, 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM, SCS15 KHz is 454 Mbpsec while for LTE using the same settings (and 1 symbol for PDCCH) max throughput in DL is just 413 Mbpsec.
