Distinguish Traffic by profile type

Hello Experts.

We would like to distinguish Traffic by profile type.

In 4G it is possible by using QCI.

I am wondering what is the equivalent of QCI in 3G?

Vendor is Huawei.

You can check:

  • VoLTE QCI 1
  • Video traffic QCI 2
  • Signalling QCI 6
  • And others are DATA nonGBR

For 3G I’m not sure since it’s not a QoS driven technology.

  • IMS signalling QCI5

There are not QCIs in 3G.

Only PS and CS bearers.

For Ericsson, you can use SPI.

For Huawei, you have Cooper, Silver and Gold if differentiated like that.

Note that these are not “standard”.

QCI 1 is mostly for voice… But the rest can vary.

Is it possible to define a set of QCIs and assign them.to different profil users?

In order to distinguish between PS data usage?

@javiersapon mentioned you could assign them different profiles like gold silver… but I’m not sure how they are mapped to different priorities.

QCIs are basically priority parameters which are carried end to end.

I.e. eNB has logic to priorities packets, transmission and the WAN has logic as well, and same with Core.

That is essence of a QCI.

For 3G bearers don’t know how true this E2E priority is.

I will check…

Do you have more details of this?

Interested to what these profiles actually do.

I remember you may change this based on RAB index, and on HLR you also set RAB index for ARP between some other things.

Please could you provide us more details on how we can do this on HLR and also on Radio side?

Is it similar to QCI in LTE?

You have to see how the RAB index is mapped on RNC and following this on HLR you have different attributes you can assign to a IMSI let’s say.

This correct view.

Just checked one of Huawei load control paper mentions this and seems like that would do the job.
