GPS Configuration for RAN Sites

Hello Ericsson BSS experts,

Does an Ericsson site require GPS configuration? I need to obtain the coordinates for all sites connected to ENM.

Yes, Ericsson sites require GPS configuration.

Thanks.

The next question is: how can we retrieve the coordinates for all the sites?

It’s only required for synchronization.

Okay, it’s like a clock used to synchronize sites.

As far as I know, with Huawei equipment, you can’t retrieve the coordinates from GPS.

So, does this mean there’s no way to obtain site coordinates through commands, and they must be collected manually?

It’s an optional input parameter - when creating sites, you can add the coordinates from the Engineering parameters.

Hello!
You can use MoBatch with GPS commands, for example.

If it has been set up.

Yes, if all sites are equipped with a GPS module from the Ericsson vendor.

Okay, I got the commands – cmedit get * EUtranCellFDD.longitude

I checked, and it’s configured in the cells.

Thanks again, everyone!

Yes, you can, but there’s no guarantee that longitude is available for all sites. However, this is the right way to proceed. :handshake::wink:

Haha, correct! Plus, I’m not even sure if those are the right coordinates.

The real issue is that sites are constantly being replaced, and I need to track the latest location for each one. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to do this.

Vendors really need to address this issue in a more sophisticated way.

Yes. That’s exactly why I mentioned that it’s better to retrieve data from the GPS module commands connected to the BB.

The module always provides the most accurate and up-to-date coordinates, unlike the MO longitude values, which may not always be reliable.

GPS command is 'gpsstatus'.

Okay, I tried that.
Is it a BB command?
I’m trying to execute this through CLI.

I’m not sure if GPS commands work via CLI from ENM since it’s not part of MOM.

hget . latitude|longitude

You can get the latitude and longitude of the site with the command gpsstatus
