Hi Experts.

Is it possible in NR to have 2 codewords with FR1 when no of layers > 4?

Any network having such deployment?

Does it require 6 RX at UE end?

It is possible to have 2 codewords when layers > 4 but no vendor and UE implemented yet 8 x 8 MIMO in DL in 5G.

Just for LTE Huawei has such a CPE with 8x8 DL MIMO:

But I would say that 8 x 8 DL MIMO is useless.

In drivetest we see 4 layers MIMO in less 10% of samples. Same from counters.

I guess 8 x 8 MIMO will be less than 0.5% of samples.

It is useless investment to develop it just for 0.5% of samples…

In regular drive test rank 4 is 15-20%.

I think rank8 will be less than 1%.

Do you think it worth the effort to develop rank8 mimo?

I also think that 8 rx antenna on ue won’t improve much rx diversity compared to 4 rx antenna.

Not even for FWA rank8 will not help as nobody search for fwa optimized antenna location to achieve higher rank.

All that people look for is line of sight with gNodeB.
