Hi experts, does the MDT (Minimization of Drive Test) functionality fall under the capabilities of a device? If so, how can I check if a device supports it? If not, does it mean that MDT is managed by the network, so I can enable MDT on any device?
Thanks
MDT (Minimization of Drive Tests) is a feature of the network.
It collect performance data directly āfrom devicesā to improve coverage and service quality minimizing the need of ātraditional drive testingā - it is not needed a technical go to field to capture this information, upload, process, etc.
The performance data of MDT is the information devices (UEs) already send when they communicate with network.
So I am not sure if āMDT capabilitiesā required for devices, probably notā¦
Experts can comment.
I conducted some research on 3GPP specifications. Support for MDT is indeed a device capability that can be explicitly declared in the UECapabilityInformation. If the parameter LoggedMeasurementsIdle-r10 is āsupported,ā then the device can perform measurements in idle mode upon request.
