Neighbor Relationship Configuration in NSA: X2 Link for 4G-Only and 4G/5G Sites?

Dear Experts,

In NSA, it’s necessary to add a neighbor relationship between the eNB and gNB.

For a 4G/5G SRAN site like site_1, this has already been done.

However, for site_2, which is only 4G, should we add an X2 neighbor relationship between site_2 (4G) and site_1 (5G)?

Please share any suggestions based on real 5G network deployments.

You can add the term points.

Sorry, what do you mean?

You can add multiple NR sides by using the Termination Points (TP) IP address from the MN side.

For example, just as you create an X2 interface between MNs, you can establish an Xn interface between the MN and SN using the Termination Points IP address.

This also applies from the gNodeB perspective.

In a cluster with overlapping coverage of N sites:

  • Site 1 has both 4G and 5G
  • Sites 2, 3, … N are 4G only

The 5G cells of Site 1 should be configured as neighbors with all 4G cells of the N sites, correct?

Right.

In NSA mode, a 4G site can connect to multiple 5G sites, and conversely, a 5G site can connect to several 4G sites. So neighbors are needed to be defined between 5G cell and several 4G cells.
