There are plenty of examples that prove open-source projects aren’t just for struggling companies. Successful projects like Arduino, OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, Wireshark, Linux, Firefox, Chromium, F-Droid, Blender, GIMP, WordPress, React, and GitHub all thrive in the open-source ecosystem.
These are just a few that come to mind. Of course, there are paid alternatives that some may find better, but in many cases, they’re simply more convenient—like Windows compared to Linux.
