RRU comparison: 2T2R with MIMO2x2 vs 4T4R with MIMO2x2 feature

• Comparing RRU with 2T2R with MIMO2x2

• With RRU with 4T4R with MIMO2x2 feature

Does it mean that second RRU would give better coverage or throughput?

4T4R High throughput you have because you can send 4 different data in each port, so throughout will improve.

Coverage is related to power per port.

If power of 2T2R per port is same as 4T4R, coverage will not be impacted.

Coverage is mostly challenged on Uplink (not Downlink).

So you achieve better coverage per site by having higher gain antennas and more receivers.

So 2T4R has better coverage than 2T2R.

Many engineers think that increasing the Downlink output power (Watt) results in increased the coverage.

However, as I said, the problem is usually on Uplink.

Because mobile networks are supposed to be 2-way communication.

So the base station may be able to boost its output to 20 or 40W power - but that does not increase the output of the phone (usually around 1 to 2W).

Hi, could you clarify what do you mean by “RRU 4T4R MIMO2x2”?

Are you using only 2 port of 4T4R RRU?

As I understand you are using all 4 ports, so should be MIMO4x4.

That’s true!

It even create Downlink and Uplink imbalance and UE lost due to poor coverage starts increasing.
