SIB 24 in LTE

In case of enabling 5G SA, SIB 24 can help for cell reseletion from LTE/5G NSA to 5G SA by providing NR cell parameters to UE, similar to other SIBs for other RATs and carriers which contain priority, SIB 24 contains priority too so if 5G SA has more priority compare to other RATs, the highest priority(7) can used at this SIB.

Hello;

a question please, what is the periodicity of SIB24?

BR

UE have to verification 3.9g , so that situation SA SIB 24 should showing or not?.

It can be configured based on requirements.

SIB 24 in LTE: Key Details

SIB 24 is used to provide information to UEs about the neighboring 5G NR cells. This allows UEs to efficiently perform measurements or other words cell reseletion from LTE/5G-NSA to 5G-NR by providing NR cell parameters to UE. Periodicity is determined by the operator’s configuration, and it may vary depending on the network’s needs.

  • Query1 : How does SIB 24 support inter-RAT handovers from LTE to 5G?

=> SIB 24 contains information that guides UEs in measuring the signal quality of neighboring 5G NR cells and determines the appropriate conditions for a handover. This includes the frequencies of the 5G cells, their Physical Cell Identifiers (PCI), and specific measurement parameters. By continuously broadcasting this data, SIB 24 ensures that UEs can seamlessly handover from LTE to 5G, maintaining service continuity and leveraging the higher speeds and capacities of 5G.

  • Query 2: What type of information does SIB 24 broadcast to UEs about 5G NR cells?

=> SIB 24 broadcasts several key pieces of information to UEs, including:
5G NR Frequency Layers: Details on the frequency bands of neighboring 5G cells.

    • Cell Identifiers: Physical Cell Identifiers (PCIs) that help UEs distinguish between different 5G cells.
    • Measurement Configuration: Parameters that instruct the UE on how to measure and report the signal quality of 5G cells.
    • Reselection and Handover Thresholds: Criteria that determine when the UE should consider switching from LTE to 5G NR based on signal strength and quality.
  • Query 3: Why is SIB 24 important for network optimization during the LTE to 5G transition?

=> SIB 24 is critical for network optimization because it helps balance the load between LTE and 5G networks. By providing UEs with the necessary information to reselect or handover to 5G cells when conditions are favorable, SIB 24 ensures that users are directed to the most appropriate network resource. This optimizes network efficiency, reduces congestion on LTE bands, and enhances overall user experience by leveraging the superior capabilities of 5G where available.

  • Query 4: Can SIB 24 influence the user experience in a dual connectivity scenario?

=> Yes, in a dual connectivity scenario where a UE is connected to both LTE and 5G NR cells simultaneously, SIB 24 plays a vital role. It provides the UE with the necessary parameters to manage and prioritize these connections effectively, ensuring that the device can make optimal use of both networks. This dual connectivity enhances data throughput, improves reliability, and ensures a seamless user experience even as the UE moves across different coverage areas.
