What is rSIM?

rSIM: discover the new chip that supports 2 lines of different operators.

A new type of SIM card was announced during MWC 2024, but ended up going a little unnoticed amid other news throughout the event. Called rSIM , the new item promises to be the “ world’s first smart and resilient SIM card ”.

The “r” in the name, by the way, refers to “resilient”.

Introduced by the CSL group in partnership with communication companies Telekom IoT and Tele2 IoT, the product was developed with the aim of improving use in networks, giving users greater confidence. Furthermore, it supports two independent communication profiles, unlike the traditional SIM card models we see today.

In other words, this means that you will no longer need to use two chips to have two independent lines on your cell phone. This type of chip will also provide automatic switching from one network to another in the event of failures, such as communication drops. Therefore, it could be an interesting change of use for this type of component.

Another interesting detail is that if the user has a device that supports two SIM cards, they could get to the point of using up to 4 numbers from 4 different operators on the same smartphone, although this is not a common situation. In any case, this type of product could even make using a cell phone safer.

The reason for this is the possibility of switching to a backup number whenever you have a problem with the main one. The launch, in turn, should not happen this year, but a version compatible with SGP.32 standards is being developed for 2025. More details about availability should be revealed over the next few months.

Nice article, also explaining how an rSIM actually works…

I guess it will not get in 2024.

Hope so 2025
